A draft line is a complete parallel version of the script. Every project starts with one, usually called Main. Opening a second lets you try a different ending, a two-hander version, or the producer's notes, while the original keeps going untouched.
When to open one
- A rewrite you are not sure about, big enough that undo is not the answer.
- Two directions you want to keep writing in parallel for a while.
- Notes from someone else that you want to apply without committing to them.
For a single scene, a take is lighter.
How switching works
The draft-line switcher at the top of the History tab lists every line. Switching is instant, each line keeps its own cursor position and its own save points, and nothing is copied or lost. Sticky notes and skill results belong to the line they were made on.
Creating one
From the History tab, New draft line asks for a name and starts the line from the current moment. You can also start a line from an older save point — useful for "what if we had gone the other way at the table read".
Bringing it home
When a draft line wins, Incorporate brings its changes into Main; today that lands the whole document after you preview it, and a finer, scene-by-scene incorporate is planned. See Incorporate changes. A draft line you abandon costs nothing to keep; delete it from the switcher's menu if the list gets long.
