Migration guide · Arc Studio Pro
Arc Studio Pro is a strong cloud editor. The switch that works is not “retype the outline” — it is export the pages you mean to keep, import them as structured Fountain, and name that import as a save point before anyone touches a line.
First-hour path
Switching is a file you can name, not a weekend of retyping.
FDX or Fountain from the draft you mean to keep.
Create the shared project before anyone rewrites.
Read the summary. Warnings are decisions, not noise.
A save point is the rollback if the first pass fails.
Export PDF or FDX when production asks — not before.
In Arc Studio, open the script you actually want to keep writing — not the beat-board experiment. Export Final Draft (.fdx) when you care about production metadata, or Fountain when you want the plain-text source. Download the file locally so the import is a known snapshot, not a live cloud tab.
Sign up, open Plot, and create the screenplay project the room will share. Invite collaborators before import if several people will review the landing — everyone should see the same structured draft, not a forwarded file.
In the Plot toolbar, open Import / Export and choose Final Draft (.fdx) or Fountain. Read the import summary. Arc-specific outline cards do not become Plot draft lines automatically — the pages do. Treat the board as notes you may rebuild, not as lost work.
Create a save point such as Imported from Arc — Aug 15. That immutable snapshot is the rollback if the first structural pass goes wrong. Arc's revision history does not travel with the file; this named moment replaces it.
If the room had two endings, open a draft line for the alternate — or hand those scenes to Agent Mode. Export FDX or PDF when production asks.
The screenplay pages import. Arc's board is a separate view and does not map one-to-one onto Plot draft lines. Rebuild the beats you still need as scenes or notes after you name the imported save point.
Yes for a handoff week — but pick one canonical draft. Editing the same story in both tools without a named export is how scenes fork. Import, name the save point, then treat Plot as the room's source.
Yes — presence, comments, and shared projects. Comments you leave in Arc do not import. Copy any load-bearing notes into the Inkwell project before you archive the Arc file.
