A skill is a structured AI pass that understands document structure and proposes edits as reviewable markup — dialogue pass, continuity check, save-lines. You accept or reject each change; nothing applies without your say.
Inkwell treats AI as assistive and writer-controlled: skills work on your draft, propose reviewable changes, and apply nothing without your approval. That design follows the writer-choice boundary in current WGA guidance, which says GAI is not a writer, GAI-produced written material is not literary material, a company cannot require a writer to use GAI, and voluntary use on covered work requires company consent and compliance with company policy.
Separate MBA conditions determine how qualifying company-furnished GAI material affects compensation, credits, and separated rights. The 2026 MBA also preserves the 2023 protections and requires notice to the Guild for certain commercial GAI training licences involving writers' work, with an opportunity for discussion that can include remuneration.
