Free fantasy character name generator

Generate elf, dwarf, tiefling, orc, goblin and aasimar names for a fantasy story or D&D campaign. Keep favorites, add character notes and download your cast.

Fantasy names

Find a name. Give them a reason to stay.

Start with six names, lock favorites and explore another family. A want, a debt or a secret turns a name into someone you can write.

What this tool gives you

A name for the person in your story

Choose from twelve fantasy families, from lyrical elves to clipped goblin names. Six ideas appear immediately.

Keep the ones that work

Lock favorites while you generate more. Mix families on one board and edit any name to fit the character.

Leave with a cast you can write

Add a want, a secret or a relationship. Copy the board or download it as Markdown for your world notes.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Choose a family

Pick elf, dwarf, orc, goblin, tiefling, dragonborn, gnome, aasimar, goliath, tabaxi, kenku or human.

  2. 2

    Keep and refine

Lock a favorite and generate again. Editing a name or note locks its card so your work stays on the board.

  3. 3

    Give the name a story

Add what the character wants, who they owe and what they hide. Copy or download before leaving.

Questions writers ask

Can I generate names for different fantasy species?

Yes. The twelve families include elves, dwarves, tieflings, dragonborn, orcs, goblins, gnomes, aasimar, goliaths, tabaxi, kenku and humans. Lock names from one family before switching to another to build a mixed cast.

Are these official D&D names or translations?

They are invented names for your own characters. Family labels help you explore sounds; they do not supply official lore, real-language meanings or a claim of uniqueness.

How do I keep the names and notes?

Copy the board or download its Markdown file. Edits stay in this tab while you work. Refreshing or closing the page clears the board, so export the version you want to keep.

Keep your cast beside the places, relationships and scenes you are developing.
