# Incorporate changes from a draft line

> Preview what a draft line would change in the main draft, then bring the whole of it across in one action you can undo with a save point.

[Try it in Plot](https://app.inkwell.software/projects)

Incorporate brings a draft line's changes into another line — usually into Main. You see every change first, as markup; nothing moves until you confirm.

1. **Switch to the line that will receive the changes**

From the draft-line switcher above the page, make sure you are on the draft line you want to update — Main, for the usual case.

2. **Choose Incorporate**

Open the switcher again and, under **Incorporate into this draft line**, choose the line whose changes you want. Typing "incorporate" into the command palette reaches the same dialog. It names both lines, so the direction is unambiguous.

_The Incorporate dialog (1): which line's changes are coming in, how much would change, and Incorporate to land them._

3. **Preview the changes**

The page shows what would change: additions, removals, and rewrites, scene by scene, with a count at the top. Read through with `⌃⇧N` / `Ctrl+Shift+N` and `⌃⇧P` / `Ctrl+Shift+P`.

4. **Confirm**

Choose **Incorporate**. The whole preview lands on the receiving line, and Plot makes a save point on both lines so the moment before is kept.

5. **Decide what happens to the draft line**

Keep it for further work, or delete it now that its changes live on Main. Either is fine; the incorporate is recorded in History whichever you choose.

> **Note: Whole document today; selected scenes planned**
>
> Incorporate lands the whole draft line after you preview it. Choosing only some scenes to bring across is planned. For a scene-sized experiment this week, write it as a take, which compares and lands one scene at a time — see [Takes](https://www.inkwell.software/help/writing/takes). An [Agent Mode](https://www.inkwell.software/help/ai/agent-mode) run is different: its result is reviewed change by change on your page, so you keep exactly the scenes you want without incorporating anything.
