# Your first AI pass

> Tell the Dramaturg what to change in a scene, read the changes it puts on your page, and decide on each one — or run a named skill from the Skills tab.

[Try it in Plot](https://app.inkwell.software/projects)

An AI pass reads part of your script and proposes changes; you accept or reject each one on the page. The quickest one starts in the Chat tab, where the Dramaturg — an assistant that has read your whole script — takes a plain instruction.

_The Chat tab: the message box (1), and beneath it the mode selector (2), which starts on Auto._

1. **Open the Chat tab**

In the right sidebar, choose **Chat**. The message box starts on **Auto**.

2. **Say what you want**

Type it the way you would say it — "Tighten the dialogue in this scene" — and press `Enter`. On Auto, the Dramaturg decides for itself: a question gets an answer, an instruction gets changes on your page. Type `@` to point it at a particular scene or character.

3. **Read the changes**

The changes arrive on the page as markup — removed text struck through, added text underlined — each with its own Accept and Reject. The next article walks through that: [Read the changes](https://www.inkwell.software/help/getting-started/read-the-changes).

4. **Or run a named pass from the Skills tab**

For a job with a name — a dialogue pass, a continuity check, coverage — choose **Skills** in the row of tabs at the top of the sidebar, pick the skill, choose how much it should read (start with one scene), and press **Run**. Its changes arrive the same way. From the page, `⌘/` / `Ctrl+/` opens the same library by name.

To see what a named pass does to a real scene, and how that differs from asking in chat, read [What a dialogue pass actually changes](https://www.inkwell.software/blog/what-a-dialogue-pass-actually-changes).

_A pass in progress — the scene it is reading is highlighted, and it can be canceled from its card._

## What next

- [Chat with the Dramaturg](https://www.inkwell.software/help/ai/chat-with-the-dramaturg): Ask questions of an assistant that has read your whole script, tell it what to change, point it at a scene or a character with @, and run the skills it suggests. On a Plot screenplay it can look up who speaks and where.
- [Read the changes a skill proposes](https://www.inkwell.software/help/getting-started/read-the-changes): Move through proposed changes one at a time, accept or reject each in place, and make a save point that records what you kept.
- [The skills library](https://www.inkwell.software/help/ai/the-skills-library): What a skill is, what each of the built-in skills does, where their results live, and how to add skills of your own.
