Each AI feature reads a defined part of your script.

| Feature | What it reads |
| -------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| A skill run | The scope you chose (scene, act, or script), one scene either side for context, and the parts of the cast list the skill needs. [Organize Notes](https://www.inkwell.software/skills/organize) also reads the notes you point it at. |
| The Dramaturg | The current draft line and the conversation so far, plus anything you mention with @. On a Plot screenplay it can look up cues, sluglines, and the speaking cast when you ask who speaks or where a scene is. |
| Agent Mode | An outline of the result draft line, the scenes it chooses to read or edit as it reaches them, look-ups it can use for who speaks, which scenes are at a place, and who speaks in a scene, the conversation the directive came from, and its own notes from the run. |
| Inline edit | The selection and the paragraph around it |
| Ghost text | The current scene up to the cursor |
| Dictionary look-up with online enrichment on | The word you looked up |

## Which provider runs it

Inkwell's hosted service by default, or the provider whose key you added — see [Bring your own key](https://www.inkwell.software/help/ai/bring-your-own-key).

## Where results go

A skill's result and what you asked for stay with your project in the Skills tab. The [privacy policy](https://www.inkwell.software/privacy) covers the rest.

## What next

- [The skills library](https://www.inkwell.software/help/ai/the-skills-library): What a skill is, what each of the built-in skills does, where their results live, and how to add skills of your own.
- [Bring your own API key](https://www.inkwell.software/help/ai/bring-your-own-key): Use your own Anthropic or OpenAI key instead of Inkwell's hosted AI, pick the model, and see how a key changes what counts against your plan.
- [Your data](https://www.inkwell.software/help/account/privacy-and-your-data): Who can read your script, how to export your account data, and where to choose your analytics settings.
