A skill is an AI pass with a defined job, a defined scope, and a defined output. It reads the part of the script you point it at — a scene, an act, the whole draft — and returns either proposed changes in the page or a report in the sidebar.

## The built-in skills

- [Dialogue Pass](https://www.inkwell.software/skills/dialogue-pass) — tightens dialogue in each character's own voice; proposes a rewrite per line.
- [Save Lines](https://www.inkwell.software/skills/save-lines) — finds lines that carry more than they need to and proposes cuts.
- [Continuity Check](https://www.inkwell.software/skills/continuity-check) — reads the whole script for contradictions: names, times, objects, who knows what.
- [Script Coverage](https://www.inkwell.software/skills/coverage) — a reader's report on structure, character, and dialogue. For a substantial outline or treatment, it gives development feedback on the material you have. The same screenplay report shape is a downloadable [script coverage template](https://www.inkwell.software/templates/script-coverage).
- [Tone Pass](https://www.inkwell.software/skills/tone-pass) — checks scenes against the tone you describe and flags the drift.
- [Organize Notes](https://www.inkwell.software/skills/organize) — routes a pile of notes to the scenes they belong to, as placements you confirm.

For a focused genre read, choose [Mystery Fair Play](https://www.inkwell.software/skills/mystery-fair-play) for clue logic, [Suspense Pass](https://www.inkwell.software/skills/suspense-pass) for pressure and uncertainty, [Horror Pass](https://www.inkwell.software/skills/horror-pass) for dread, [Romance Arc](https://www.inkwell.software/skills/romance-arc) for relationship turns, or [World Rules](https://www.inkwell.software/skills/world-rules) for the rules and limits of an invented world. Each one proposes focused changes on the page, such as a sharper line or a short planted beat, for you to accept or reject. A report explains each change, and lists what to keep and anything it could not fix with a small edit. A pass never deletes or moves your text, and it leaves the big decisions, such as who did it or how it ends, to you.

The full table — scope, output, and the command for each — is the [skills reference](https://www.inkwell.software/help/reference/skills).

## Where to run one

From the **Skills** tab in the right sidebar, or by name in the command menu (`⌘/` / `Ctrl+/`). Choose the scope and run the pass.

## Where results go

The Skills tab keeps every pass you have run on the project, newest first, with its scope, when it ran, and its result. A pass that proposed changes reopens its review; a pass that wrote a report keeps the report. Until you run something, the tab explains what a skill is and offers the library.

## Turn a report into changes

A report tells you what to fix. To have the fixes made, choose **Make these changes** on the finished report. Agent Mode takes the report's findings as its goal and starts a run that works like any other: it may ask you a question in Chat, and its changes come to your page for you to accept or reject. **Show the run** takes you to it. See [Agent Mode](https://www.inkwell.software/help/ai/agent-mode).

If the agent is already working on a run, this one waits and starts when that run finishes. **Cancel** removes it while it waits. If your draft space is full, the run waits for you instead: **Open Chat** to free space or start it anyway.

When the run finishes, its card in Chat shows how many of the report's findings it acted on and lists the ones still open, so you can read them beside your review.

If the pass also proposed edits of its own, those stay in the Skills tab's review, and the run leaves those lines to it. A report with nothing to change, such as one that found only strengths to keep, says so where the button would be. Agent Mode works in a saved Plot screenplay you can edit, so the button doesn't appear in Canvas or on a script you can only read.

## Skills of your own

Settings → Custom skills lets you author a skill: what it reads, what you want it to do, and what shape its output takes. A custom skill runs through the same review as the built-in ones, counts against the same allowance, and on a Team plan can be shared with the workspace.

> **Note: What a skill costs**
>
> Each run uses part of the month's skill allowance for your plan; the current figures are on [Plans and quotas](https://www.inkwell.software/help/account/plans-and-quotas). A run with your own API key does not count against the allowance — see [Bring your own key](https://www.inkwell.software/help/ai/bring-your-own-key).

## What next

- [Your first AI pass](https://www.inkwell.software/help/getting-started/your-first-ai-pass): Tell the Dramaturg what to change in a scene, read the changes it puts on your page, and decide on each one — or run a named skill from the Skills tab.
- [Review a skill's changes](https://www.inkwell.software/help/ai/review-a-skills-changes): Work through a finished pass change by change, keep what earns its place, reopen a review you left, and see what a pass changed in History.
- [Use Agent Mode for a bigger revision](https://www.inkwell.software/help/ai/agent-mode): Hand the Dramaturg a goal that spans scenes, answer its questions when a choice is yours, and review what it changed on your page.
- [Skills reference](https://www.inkwell.software/help/reference/skills): Every built-in skill with its command, what it reads, how much of the script it can take, and what it returns.
