# Ghost text

> Inline completion suggestions that appear ahead of your cursor as you pause — accept with Right Arrow, dismiss with Escape. A drafting aid, not an automatic rewrite of finished pages.

Also known as inline completion, ghost completion

## In practice

Ghost text offers short inline completions ahead of your cursor when you pause — a drafting aid for flow, not a structured rewrite of finished pages. Accept a suggestion with Right Arrow; dismiss it with Escape. Unaccepted ghost text never becomes part of the draft you keep or share with the room.

Tab stays reserved for Fountain element cycling in Plot. Never use Tab to take a ghost suggestion; that key moves between scene heading, action, dialogue, and the rest of the element set. Keeping those jobs separate prevents a completion from stealing a format keystroke mid-scene.

Treat ghost text and skills as different tools. Ghost text is momentary and local; skills run a deliberate pass and return reviewable markup across a chosen scope. If a completion is wrong, Escape and keep typing — the cost of dismissing should stay lower than the cost of cleaning a bad accept later.

## Common questions

### How do I accept or dismiss ghost text?

Accept with Right Arrow; dismiss with Escape. Keep typing past a suggestion if you prefer. Unaccepted completions never enter the draft.

### Can I accept ghost text with Tab?

No. Tab is for Fountain element cycling in Plot. Right Arrow accepts a ghost suggestion; Escape clears it without changing your pages.

### Is ghost text the same as a skill pass?

No. Ghost text offers short inline completions while you type. Skills run a deliberate pass and return reviewable markup you accept or reject.

### Do I have to use ghost text to write in Plot?

Never. Dismiss with Escape, ignore suggestions, or disable the aid if you want a quiet page — Plot remains a full editor either way.

- [Dialogue](https://www.inkwell.software/glossary/dialogue): Spoken lines under a character cue. In Plot, a dialogue pass proposes changes, mostly to the spoken lines, that you accept or reject one at a time.

Light conventions — scene headings, character cues, dialogue — keep the file readable in any text editor while still carrying structure. In Plot you write normally; Inkwell understands the structure as you type.
