# AI skill

> A structured AI pass that reads your document and proposes edits or findings in place — dialogue polish, continuity flags, coverage — as reviewable markup you accept or reject.

Also known as skill pass, AI pass

## In practice

An AI skill is a deliberate pass over structured scenes and lines, not a chat window that demotes your draft to paste. It returns reviewable markup or findings in place so you retain editorial control over what enters the draft. You choose when a pass runs at all — silence remains a valid drafting choice every day.

Craft skills like Dialogue and Save lines propose edits you must accept before anything lands. Analysis-first skills like Continuity, Coverage, and Tone surface evidence and notes without silently rewriting pages. That split matters in practice: polish tools suggest lines; diagnosis tools cite problems for you to fix.

Hosted skill passes work without BYOK. If you connect your own key, it can route chat, ghost-text completion, and skills through your provider account with encrypted key storage. Either way, unaccepted suggestions never become the draft you ship to a room or a buyer.

## Common questions

### How is a skill different from ChatGPT in another tab?

A general chat tool returns paragraphs you must re-enter. A skill proposes changes inside the draft, scoped to screenplay structure, with accept or reject on each suggestion.

### Will skills write a whole screenplay from a prompt?

No. Inkwell skills are built for craft and continuity on a script you already wrote — not autonomous script generation from a blank page.

### Do skill edits apply automatically?

No. Every proposal stays reviewable until you accept it. Analysis-first skills such as Continuity and Coverage emphasize findings over silent rewrites.

### Can I turn AI off entirely?

Yes. Do not launch skills and do not connect a key — Plot remains a full structured screenplay editor with version control either way.
